An inquiry is beginning into a helicopter crash which seriously injured one of the North's leading rally drivers and killed two of his children.

Bertie Fisher

Mr Bertie Fisher's private helicopter went down a short distance from his home near Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, as the family returned from a celebration for his wife's birthday.

Mr Fisher's daughter Emma (25) and son Mark (27) were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Fisher (50) and his wife Gladys, together with their other son Roy, were taken to the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen for treatment. Mrs Fisher was later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast for specialist treatment.

Mr Fisher underwent surgery at Erne hospital last night and remains in a critical condition. His son Roy is being treated for severe fractures to his legs.

The RUC expect it to take a number of weeks for the cause of the crash to be established.
