Harare - Aides to President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe yesterday dismissed an opposition call for his impeachment over pre-election violence that foreign observers blamed on the ruling ZANU-PF.

Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), said Mr Mugabe, as head of ZANUPF, should be impeached for a wave of state-sponsored violence which killed 31 people.

The Information Minister, Mr Chen Chemutengwende, said "it is not practically possible to impeach the president knowing that the majority of parliamentarians are from ZANU-PF and MDC has a minority".
