IBEC want the Minster to introduce measures to penalise people who make fraudulent insurance claims.

The group's director of enterprise, Mr Brendan Butler said: "People who make spurious or exaggerated personal injury claims should have to pay compensation to those against whom they take such bogus cases.

"What these people fail to see if that there actions are putting at risk the jobs of many people as companies are not in a position to pay rapidly rising insurance premia fuelled by this 'compensation culture'", he said.

IBEC are proposing that "if through the court proceedings it is established that the claim is exaggerated the case should be dismissed with full costs awarded against the claimant."
