Tirana - The US special envoy for the Balkans, Mr Richard Holbrooke, said during a visit to the Albanian capital Tirana late yesterday that the situation in the Yugoslav province of Kosovo was "extraordinarily dangerous".

Mr Holbrooke was speaking after meeting the Albanian Prime Minister, Mr Fatos Nano. He had earlier met the Kosovo Albanian leader, Mr Ibrahim Rugova, and the Yugoslav President, Mr Slobodan Milosevic.

Mr Holbrooke said there was "deadlock" in the situation.
