A Western Health Board committee is to make a recommendation that lesbians be given the same rights as heterosexuals when their partners are admitted to hospital. However, the Acute Services Standing Committee rejected a recommendation that lesbians be given the same rights as nextof-kin, as it does not have the legal right to make such a decision.

The recommendation is expected to be brought before the health board for consideration within the next six months.
