The National University of Ireland, Dublin, Trinity College Dublin and Dublin City University have been allocated an extra £12.2 million by the Minister for Education to provide 867 additional student places in high technology courses, main ly in engineering and computer hardware and software.

Mr Martin said the announcement was part of the recently-launched £75 million investment plan for the third level sector, which is designed to target those "high skills" areas where there is high employment growth.
