San Francisco - The Governor of California, Mr Gray Davis, said yesterday there was a "credible" threat that the state's major suspension bridges - including the Golden Gate Bridge - could be attacked at rush hour between today and next week.

Mr Davis has authorised the National Guard to station additional personnel at California's major suspension bridges: the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge, San Francisco; the Vincent Thomas Bridge, Los Angeles; and the Coronado Bridge, San Diego.
