An extensive Garda investigation into an alleged paedophile ring in Galway city has resulted in a file being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. The first move by gardai to prosecute a suspect in relation to the case relates to an ongoing investigation. It is understood the man is in his 40s and is a former GAA club official.

A senior Garda spokesman confirmed yesterday the file related to a six-week Garda investigation at the end of last year, when a surveillance operation on a number of middle-aged men was mounted.
