Gardaí are still questioning a man arrested last night in connection with their investigation into the murder of a nightclub security man.

The man who is in his 50s was arrested by gardaí at Barefield near Ennis, Co Clare, yesterday evening.

He is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Mayorstone Garda station in Limerick.

Father of two Brian Fitzgerald was shot dead outside his home near the Mill Road, Corbally, as he returned home from work in Doc's nightclub in November 2002.

It is believed that he was targeted by a notorious criminal gang after he refused to allow them to deal drugs on the premises.

Last year, a UK gunman, James Martin Cahill, was jailed for life for the murder of the nightclub security man (34). To date, no one else has been charged in connection with the murder.
