Spaniard Sergio Garcia beat home favourite Retief Goosen on the first play-off hole to win the Nedbank Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club. Garcia birdied the 16th after putting in from 10 feet, while Goosen could not make a monster 45-foot putt to push the play-off onto another hole.

Both players finished on 14-under par after the regulation four rounds. Garcia beat another South African, Ernie Els, in 2001 on the first play-off hole to win the title.

Darren Clarke finished in fourth position after shooting a final round 67 while Padraig Harrington was well off the pace despite a carding a 70.
