Mr Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP has today confirmed that he intends to seek a nomination to stand as a Fianna Fáil candidate in the constituency of Donegal South West at the next general election.

The Fianna Fáil constituency party is to hold a convention on January 27th to select two candidates for the election.

Mr Gallagher said that he has written to all convention delegates in the constituency informing them of his decision and seeking their support as a potential candidate for the party.

Fianna Fáil currently holds one seat in Donegal South West.

In a statement released today, Mr Gallagher said he hoped to secure a second seat for the party. "This I am sure is achievable with a well organised campaign," he said.

Mr Gallagher was elected to the European Parliament in 1994.
