A French woman is critically ill in hospital today after she was attacked in Dublin yesterday evening.

A French woman is critically ill in hospital today after she was attacked in Dublin yesterday evening.

A Garda spokeswoman said the woman, who is in her early twenties, was found lying injured outside her apartment in Bertram Court, Christchurch, Dublin 8 at about 7.15pm.

She had received wounds to the neck and hand, the spokeswoman said. The victim was taken to St James's Hospital and the scene was preserved for technical examination.

She remains in a "critical" condition in hospital today. A motive for the unprovoked attack has not been established.

"Gardaí in Kevin Street station are appealing for any witnessess to the incident to contact the incident room at 6669435," the spokeswoman said.
