Media advisory from the Department of Foreign Affairs on situations in Japan:

The department is advising Irish nationals against all non-essential travel to Japan.

It is also asking Irish citizens in the northeast of Japan and the Tokyo region to decide whether they need to remain in those areas given the developing situation. This is particularly the case for people with small children.

The department is advising those seeking to leave should make travel reservations as soon as possible.

A full list of contact details for airlines and other transport providers is available on the website of the Department of Foreign Affairs at dfa.ie.

There are no reports of any Irish casualties in the affected areas.

The department’s Consular Crisis Centre and the Irish Embassy in Tokyo are providing assistance as required to Irish nationals.

Irish people in Japan can contact the Irish Embassy in Tokyo on +81 332 630695.

Anyone concerned about family or friends is advised to contact the Department of Foreign Affairs at 01-4082000.
