THE dancer Michael Flatley may not be able to perform at the London premiere of his new show, Lord of the Dance, after he collapsed at a preview and had to be carried off the stage.
Doctors have ordered him to rest his legs in the hope that he will be able to dance during the London premiere tomorrow.
Two months ago, Flatley insured his legs for £25 million on the instructions of the show's promoter, Mr Harvey Goldsmith.
Mr Mark Barkowski, a spokesman for Flatley, said: "There could be a record payout if he is forced to cancel because of his leg injury. But we just don't know yet how serious it is."
Members of the audience at Saturday's preview in Manchester booed and some people walked out when it was announced that Flatley would not be dancing. However, his understudy, John Carey, received three standing ovations.
The London run of the show was originally scheduled for three days, but has been extended to four weeks on the strength of advance ticket sales.
