Johannesburg - At least seven people were killed and six were still missing yesterday following a flash flood which turned a river rafting adventure in eastern South Africa into a disaster, police said. Two survivors were plucked to safety by an air force helicopter a police spokeswoman, Capt Yvette Jonker, said.

The tragedy occurred when a party of 24 thrillseekers in tractor-tyre inner tubes were struck by a surge of water while they were negotiating the tricky Storms River canyon in Eastern Cape province on Saturday, police said.
