A fisherman was last night airlifted from a Dutch fishing vessel with a partially severed hand.

A fisherman was last night airlifted from a Dutch fishing vessel with a partially severed hand.

The Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopter in Sligo was deployed at around 8.30pm yesterday and winched the man from the vessel which was located about 80 kilometres northwest from the Erris coast.

He was airlifted by the to Sligo airport from where he was transferred by ambulance to Sligo General hospital where he was being treated last night.

“The vessel contacted us at around 8.30pm and we arranged a medical evacuation to shore from the ship,” a Coast Guard spokesman said.
