An area covering a square kilometre of Divis Mountain in west Belfast was affected yesterday. Six fire engines attended the scene last night and the fire was eventually extinguished this morning.

On Monday, around 12 acres of gorse were destroyed in a blazes on Black Mountain in west Belfast and a further two acres close to the Knockagh Monument near Carrickfergus.

The Fire and Rescue Service revealed recently that officers had attended some 900 gorse fires since the start of April - many of them started deliberately.
