A snack-food company in Donegal is to create 28 new jobs after winning a major contract to supply the Tesco supermarket chain with own brand products.
Largo Foods on the Gweedore Industrial Estate is to increase its workforce from 180 to 218 to produce the new snack line which will be aimed at the UK market.
It is understood that the deal is worth Stg5m per annum.
The company employs a total of 450 people in plants in Donegal, Meath and one in the Czech Republic and is best known for manufaturing Hunky Dory crisps.
Largo's managing director, Mr Raymond Coyle, said Tesco's decision to award the contract to the company demonstrated the confidence the retailer had in Largo's quality: "We hope that the awarding of this contract will help to solidify and expand our relationship with one of our company's most important customers in the coming years," he said.
In recent months there has been a string of job losses in the county, notably in the textile sector, and this news of new jobs has been widely welcomed by local public representatives.
