Young Irish people should avail of the benefits of working in other European countries courtesy of the latest European Voluntary Service Programme, according to the Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Mr Willie O'Dea. The European Commission has allocated £275 million for the scheme and also to fund the Youth for Europe exchange programme over the next five years.

Both programmes offer young Irish people the opportunity to visit other EU countries for periods of one week to a year. A total of 8,822 participants have taken part in exchanges under Youth for Europe since 1995.
