An elderly woman (79) has died in a fire in her home in the village of Scotshouse, near Clones Co Monaghan.
The woman was sleeping when the fire broke out at around 2 a.m. in her bedroom.
Gardaí believe she was unable to escape from the bedroom and died as a result of smoke inhalation.
The remains have been brought to Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem examination is being carried out.
