Students in 35 schools all around the country are gearing up for this Saturday's high-style final of a design competition for Transition Year and Leaving Cert students.
Some 2,400 students participated in the preliminary heats of the "Coca-Cola Form + Fusion Design Awards", in which students work in groups to combine ideas, materials and techniques and create futuristic costumes from recycled materials. They present their costumes in a two-minute performance to a piece of music of their own choosing. Aidine O'Reilly, a former secondary-school art teacher, is the creator of this competition, which first took place in 1998. The final takes place in Millstreet, Co Cork, and will be compered by Ray Darcy.
