Japan’s Seiji Ebihara held off the challenge of Denis Durnian to clinch the AIB Irish Seniors Open at Adare Manor today.
Ebihara, who led from day one, carded a closing 70 to retain the title he won at Powerscourt last year on a total of 8-under-par but Durnian will rue a bogey at the last which robbed him of the chance to force a play-off.
The Englishman had played admirably all day but allowed nerves to get the better of him, closing with a six on the 500-yard par 5 18th to all but hand Ebihara the title.
Ebihara went on to birdie the last and open a two stroke margin of victory and render Durnian’s bogey academic.
Christy O’Connor Jnr (4-under) shared third place with John Grace and Jim Rhodes.
Clare-born Joe McDermott finished on one-under to grab a share of eighth spot.
