One hundred jobs are to be created in Dunmore East, Co Waterford, following the granting of outline planning permission for a €20 million hotel, conference, and leisure development.

Waterford County Council has approved in principle plans by Ms Karen Harris of the Dunmore East Adventure Centre to develop a 60-bedroom hotel at Graigaridda, Ballymabin and The Commons in the Barony of Gaultier.

In addition, a six-acre outdoor adventure park, 36 self-catering apartments and 22 houses for tourist accommodation are included in the plans. The adventure park will feature an archery range, climbing tower, playing fields, tennis courts and picnic areas, while a swimming pool and gymnasium will complete the facilities. The original planning application was lodged by Ms Harris with Waterford County Council on May 29th, 2002. The other directors of the Dunmore East Adventure Centre are Mr Rupert Musgrave and Mr Gavin Sweeney.

The centre was in the spotlight in May 2000 when the parents of a 14-year-old boy who was drowned along with another young man in a canoeing accident in Dunmore East in May 1995 received €114,300 in compensation. The settlement was approved by the High Court.
