James Joyce's Dubliners has been chosen as the 'Dublin: One City, One Book' title for 2012.
The Dublin City Council sponsored project, now in its sixth year, encourages people to read the same book during the month of April.
Dubliners is a collection of 15 short stories by Joyce, depicting life in and around the city in the early years of last century.
The chosen title will be supported by a wide range of public events and celebrations next April.
Previous One City, One Book novels have included Flann O'Briens's At Swim Two Birds, Sebastian Barry's A Long, Long Way, Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray and Ghost Light by Joseph O'Connor.
A spokesman said: “The project promotes reading in a city which boasts one of the world’s greatest literary heritages, including four Nobel laureates, and was a major element of Dublin’s success in becoming a Unesco City of Literature.”
