A Dublin man has been remanded in custody after an appearance at Dublin District Court this morning charged with false imprisonment.

Mr Eamonn Dunne (26), from Finglas, was denied bail and was ordered to appear before the court again next week.

The charges relate to an incident in which a man was found bound and gagged in the boot of a car in Ballymun last night.

Gardaí from the Divisional Task Force at Santry stopped the car on Glasnevin Avenue at around 8 p.m.

Mr Dunne was arrested and detained at Santry Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act

It is believed that the man had been abducted earlier that day. He is being treated for minor injuries at Beaumont Hospital.
