FAI Cup quarter-final
Derry City 3 St Patrick's Athletic 1
Derry City's good form continued at the Brandywell tonight when they ousted 10-man St Patrick's Athletic from the FAI Carlsberg Cup.
The visitors stole an early lead when striker Tony Bird scored after just six minutes. Soon after, however, they were reduced to 10 men when midfielder Paul Osam was dismissed after a challenge on Derry's Gareth McGlynn.
Derry, buoyed by their league win over the same opposition last week, drew level early in the second half after Robbie Griffen steered the ball into his own net.
Ciaran Martyn then gave the home side the upper hand with a superb goal in the 66th minute following good work from substitute Liam Coyle.
Martyn then sealed the victory with an injury time strike.
