A defamation action being brought by Genport Ltd, a company which leases Sachs Hotel in Dublin, against two members of the Garda Serious Crime Squad has been deferred.

The High Court was told yesterday the case was not going ahead today because one of the gardai had open heart surgery last Friday.

Mr Eoin McGonigal SC, for the two gardai, produced a letter in court from the consultant cardiologist who performed the operation on Garda Raymond Murray in which he stated it would take between four to six weeks for the officer to recover.

The jury action was expected to last at least two weeks. Mr Justice Moriarty yesterday listed the case for hearing on the first available date in June. He said he would reserve the question of costs.
