The Minister for the Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht has declined to make any comment today on a newspaper report today that she is intends to take Irish language stations from RTÉ, a spokesman said.

An article in the Sunday Independentclaimed the Minister, Ms Síle De Valera, was working on a plan to slim down RTÉ by taking away some of its "traditional assets" including Teilifís na Gaelige (TG4) and Raidio na Gaelteachta.

It claimed she is also considering taking away the National Symphony Orchestra.

It said Minister De Valera told senior executives at the broadcaster the move was being considered as a means to make costs associated with RTÉ’s main operations more transparent.

However the spokesman told ireland.comthe Minister would make no comment on the claims beyond saying "broadcasting issues and structures are constantly under review and examination".
