Customs officers today seized five million cigarettes with an estimated street value of approximately €1.7 million at Dublin Port.
The 'Palace' brand cigarettes were packed on 16 pallets in a container of textiles and footwear. The container arrived in a container, by ship from Oporto in Portugal.
"The find resulted from a scan by the new Customs X-ray container scanner," a Customs official said.
"The potential loss of revenue amounts to €1.25 million," he added.
