A 20-year-old man arrested in connection with a serious assault in Waterford at the weekend has been released without charge.
The man was one of two men held yesterday in connection with the assault in which a man was critically injured. The men were arrested at around lunchtime yesterday in Portlaoise and Kilcormac, Co Offaly.
Gardaí said the incident occurred shortly after midnight yesterday.
The injured man was taken to Waterford General Hospital in an unconscious state in the early hours of yesterday morning and was later transferred to Cork University Hospital, where his condition is described as critical
A 22-year-old man remains in custody in Waterford Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
