Man faces court over fatal taxi crash in Dublin

Passenger fatally injured when stolen taxi hit pole in south city on Sunday morning

A man was expected to face court this morning in relation to a fatal crash in south Dublin city on Sunday morning.

The 24-year-old was arrested after the incident involving a stolen taxi at about 8.45am on Sunday morning.

He will appear before a sitting of Dublin District Court charged in connection with the incident.

He was taken to Saint James's Hospital nearby, where he was later pronounced dead. The State Pathologist's office was to carry out a postmortem.

The other occupant of the car was arrested and detained at Kilmainham Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A Garda spokesman said the taxi was not being pursued at the time of the crash.
