Ms Shelia Terry, a Fingal county councillor, has resigned as a member of the Progressive Democrats. She will continue to represent the Castleknock/ Blanchardstown area of west county Dublin, as an Independent. In a brief statement she said that she had taken the decision "with great sadness and regret" but felt she had "no other honourable option".
She claimed that the selection of the Dublin West PD candidate, Mr Tom Morrisey, for the general election "was both undemocratic and unconstitutional".
