Euphoria about the success of some AIDS/HIV treatments "has had the unfortunate side effect of diminishing the sense of threat people feel from HIV infection". This had increased risky behaviour among the uninfected, GayPoz Ireland has warned.

In a World AIDS Day statement the group, which provides information on treatment options, said new treatments were failing for some and people were still dying from AIDS/ HIV. It also stressed the critical importance of HIV treatment adherence and of ensuring therapy is used aggressively enough to fully suppress replication of the virus.
