Alleged human rights abuses in Chechnya will be raised by Department of Foreign Affairs officials when they meet their Russian counterparts in Dublin this week.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Cowen, has expressed deep concern at the allegations, and said he was anxious to hear Russia's response.

The matter will be raised during a Council of Europe human rights conference which begins in Dublin Castle on Thursday.
