The ferry company Seacat yesterday welcomed a ruling by the High Court in Belfast that a planned strike by ferry staff is illegal. The strike, by members of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association, has now been called off.

However, leave to appeal was granted to the union, with the appeal due to be heard today.
