Detectives in the North investigating a man's suspicious death today questioned his son.

Mr Samuel John Quigg (50) was found slumped in a chair at his home in Co Derry by a neighbour. Mr Quigg, who is believed to have suffered a heart attack, was discovered with cuts and bruises.

He was still alive when the friend broke into the Glengrainne Gardens house in Park village, outside Dungiven yesterday, but died soon after.

Sources confirmed police investigating the death have arrested his 23-year-old son.

Originally from Co Tyrone, he had lived in the area for many years with his two children after his marriage broke up.

Mr Thomas Conway, an SDLP councillor who lived close to the dead man, said: "The village is shocked by his sudden death. He was a very much respected member of the community and my deepest sympathies go out to the family circle.2

Police refused to disclose any details until a post-mortem report was completed. But security sources revealed detectives were trying to establish whether any incident brought on the heart attack.
