Mr Cian O'Connor, whose Olympic title is still in doubt after positive drug tests on his horse Waterford Crystal, was a guest at the Show Jumping Association of Ireland celebrations last night.

Mr O'Connor features only fleetingly in a new book, Celebrating 50 Years, 1954-2004. But although he is acknowledged as Ireland's first Olympic gold medallist in equestrian sport there is no mention in the book of the doping controversy. The editor of the book, international show jumping judge Ms Liz Pottie, said she was trying to "keep things positive."

Meanwhile, Mr Ken Lalo, the chairman of the judicial committee in charge of the doping case, has said he believes that a hearing will not take place until "some time in January."

Mr O'Connor has until Monday next to prepare his defence and provide an explanation for the dope test on his horse following the Athens Games.

However, it now looks unlikely that the December 13th deadline can be met following a delay on documentation requested from the International Equestrian Federation.
