Cluj - Unwanted clothes which once belonged to Romanian communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife Elena have been donated to an old people's home, officials said yesterday.

The clothes, including 13 dressing gowns, 14 pairs of shorts and 19 pairs of shoes, as well as trousers and pyjamas formerly worn by Ceausescu were given to the home in the central town of Gherla. The Ceausescus were summarily executed on Christmas Day 1989.

Further Ceausescu belongings are currently being auctioned on the Internet, with 150 items under the hammer on the web address: http://www.apps.ro.
