Boy in critical condition after Ballymena fire incident

A young boy who ran on to a street with his clothes on fire in Ballymena, Co Antrim, is in a critical condition in hospital.

A young boy who ran on to a street with his clothes on fire in Ballymena, Co Antrim, is in a critical condition in hospital.

The child, believed to be four years old, was helped by passersby after he ran on to a main road from a house on Friday afternoon. It is not known how his clothes had caught fire.

A woman who tried to help beat out the flames with her hands was also taken to hospital for treatment for burns.

The boy was brought to Antrim Area Hospital but later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where his condition has deteriorated from serious to critical.
