Chinon isn't easy to sell away from its native turf, but like all the red wines of the Loire, it's picking up speed simply because it's such a refreshing change - light, fragrant and juicy. Start with Chinon Les Menilles 1996 (Fine Wines Limerick, £6.99), a silver medal winner at this year's Loire concours, and savour its mouthwatering style at a runaway price. This one needs food, however, to swallow its firm tannins. See Match of the Day.
