Police and British soldiers were posted in the Short Strand area of Belfast overnight after rioting between nationalist and loyalist youths.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson said "sporadic stone throwing" had been reported and the situation had been described as "tense".

Police officers are understood to have worked with local community leaders to try and calm the situation.
