A DONEGAL man has been remanded in custody to May 15th after the Central Criminal Court was told the state was accepting his plea of attempted rape of a young woman.

Mr Denis Vaughan Buckley SC (with Ms Miriam Reynolds), prosecuting, said after considering the case the Director of Public Prosecutions had decided a charge of raping the woman should not be proceeded with.

Mr Justice Frederick Morris remanded the defendant in custody and ordered a probation report on the defendant as well as a victim impact report on the woman.

On January 15th the 37 year old defendant pleaded guilty to attempted rape and aggravated sexual assault of the then 19 year old woman in Donegal on September 18th 1994.
