A man today escaped a shotgun ambush in Northern Ireland that police believe could be linked to a feud between rival loyalist paramilitary factions.

He was sitting in a car at Portadown, Co Armagh, when he was fired at by a gunman who was driven off in a car.

The getaway car was later found abandoned.

Police believe the attack at Ulsterville Park was connected to a feud between members of the Ulster Volunteer Force and the Loyalist Volunteer Force.

The feud has killed at least three people in the past two years.
