An Bord Pleanala has upheld the granting of planning permission for one annual concert at Slane Castle until 2002, including this year.

The decision is subject to 11 conditions including the lodgement of £50,000 with Meath County Council for a clean-up programme and remedial works. The money will be returned within a month of the concert if the developer completes the works satisfactorily.

Last November Meath County Council granted planning permission for one concert a year for 10 years starting in 1998. This was appealed by the Slane Householders Association which at the time refused to comment on the reasons for appealing. It was then appealed by the developer, promoter Eamonn McCann.
