Two Mayo anglers who used banned shellfish as bait for salmon fishing on the Moy river have been fined £175

Two Mayo anglers who used banned shellfish as bait for salmon fishing on the Moy river have been fined £175. Ballina District Court heard yesterday fisheries officers found traces of purple dye on the fingers of the two men. Judge William Hamill was told fishermen dyed prawns and shrimp purple to make the bait more attractive to salmon.

Michael Lackey, of St Patrick's Estate, and Raymond Langdon, of Mount Assumpta, both Ballina, were each fined £175 with £75 costs and £58.70 expenses.
