Security in Afghanistan has not improved and roadside bombings soared 94 per cent in the first four months of this year compared with the same period in 2009, the head of the United Nations said today.
The findings come in a quarterly report by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to the UN Security Council. The UN mission in Kabul released the report today.
In addition to roadside bombings, the report said suicide attacks take place at the rate of about three a week, half of them in the ethnic Pashtun areas of the south.
Assassinations of Afghan officials also rose by 45 per cent in the first four months of the year compared with the same time in 2009.
