Adare Manor to host 2002 Irish Seniors Open

This year's AIB Irish Seniors Open will be held at Adare Manor Golf Resort, it was announced today.

This year's AIB Irish Seniors Open will be held at Adare Manor Golf Resort, it was announced today.

The Co Limerick venue will host the event for the first time from May 17th to 19th.

The event, won by Ireland’s Joe McDermott at Woodbrook in 1998, was held at Powerscourt last year. This year’s prize fund, yet to be announced, is expected to be in the region of €300,000. Defending champion, Seiji Ebihara of Japan, is expected to be among a field of 72 come May.

Adare Manor gained international recognition in 2000 when it played host to the Ladies World Cup, an event won by Sweden’s Carin Koch and Sophie Gustafson.

Announcing the decision to move the event to Limerick, Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Seniors Tour, said: "All at the Tour are delighted that Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort has agreed to host the AIB Irish Seniors Open.

"As one of the premier golf clubs in Ireland, all our members are looking forward to the challenge that the course will present and I am sure we will have a tournament to remember."
