Arsenal skipper Tony Adams has decided to hang up his boots at the end of the 2001-2002 season.

The 34-year-old, who has suffered a recurring back problem for the past three seasons, said today: "I'll be playing until the end of next season, but that's where it is going to have to end for me.

"I want one more crack at the English premier league and the Champions League with the squad we have here before I call it a day."

Adams quit playing for England at the end of last season in order to prolong his career with the London club. He has captained the side for the past decade and has captured eight trophies, including three championship medals, in his glittering career.

Adams will have a chance to lift another trophy when he leads Arsenal at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in the FA Cup final against Liverpool on May 12. -Reuters
