Former pop idol Adam Ant admitted at the Old Bailey today he threatened drinkers in a pub after he was taunted over his bizarre "cowboy" clothes.

The 47-year-old Ant - appearing under real name Stuart Goddard - of Primrose Hill, north London, admitted a single charge of affray and was remanded on bail until October 2nd for sentence.

Three further charges of criminal damage, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an imitation firearm are to be dropped by the prosecution.

The affray charge arose from an incident at the Prince of Wales pub in Kentish Town, north London on January 12th this year.

The singer had turned up with a starting pistol after drinkers at the pub made fun of his "cowboy" appearance.

They started humming the theme from the spaghetti western The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, when he walked in wearing a combat jacket and matching flat cap, the court heard.

During Adam Ant's heyday in the early 1980s, his albums sold millions and his image was pinned up in teenagers' bedrooms around Britain.
