The Achill House of Prayer, which controversially closed its doors earlier this summer, was reopened in a private capacity yesterday by its founder, Christina Gallagher.
Ms Gallagher decided to close the establishment, which annually attracts at least 10,000 visitors, following what she described as continued intervention by the Catholic Church in running its operations. She indicated that the reopening was the result of appeals from people all over the world.
A spokesperson said that Ms Gallagher intended to adhere to restrictions outlined by Archbishop Michael Neary with regard to the celebration of ceremonies there.
